Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp - Review

Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp
Ages: Teen

Almost three years ago we reviewed Dragon's Lair HD. In this game Dirk the Daring continually risks his life and often gives his life to rescue his Princess Daphne from the evil Dragon Singe. Roll forward to today. Dirk is doing a repeat performance fighting the evil wizard Mordroc, who seems to have captured the Princess. Some scenarios are familiar, some are new, but they are all filled with imaginative, off the wall, wonderful, gooey, ugly, creepy ways to die. Spectacular deaths is what we play the game for. Of course there are some who have mastered the sequences - but you don't want to miss the extravagant deaths. Game play involves pressing the correct key sequence on your TV remote - quickly - something like U,R,L,D,S,L,R,R (Up, Right, Left, Down, Sword, ...)

Each scenario is filled with in-jokes: Dirk in Wonderland, The Garden of Eden, Ancient Egypt, Heaven's Gate, Flying Beethoven. Every setting is funnier than the other. What a great game came out of Don Bluth's creative, twisted mind. On the DVD disk (which you play in your DVD player) there is an amusing interview with Don Bluth the designer, who admits to being able to describe the game in great detail but can no longer play it. For those of you who are in the same boat - there is a "Watch" mode so you can just sit back and enjoy. Having played the previous version - I was amazed at the difference Blu-ray made, much more so than some of the other transfers I've seen. Glorious Color would be an apt phrase.

Fun Factor: Hilarious
Female Factor: A princess is a princess is a princess.
